Masjid Al-Islam

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Masjid Al-Islam is the largest mosque in Rhode Island. Before its inception, most congregants attended Masjid Al-Karim. Due to the budding community, the masjid was created to provide conveience and new resources. Built in 1995, via local donations, particularly that of Dr. Muhammad Arif, who donated the land and a generous amount of monetary funds, Masjid Al-Islam welcomes Muslims of all backgrounds, as its adherents come from all over the world. Non-muslims, wishing to learn about the religion or provide communal support, are more than welcome to come in as well. Assalamu' Alaikum means may peace be upon you. Islam means submission. Welcome One! Welcome All!

SERVICES

Masjid Al-Islam offers congregational prayers, Islamic education, scholarly advice, marriage and death ceremonies, a Sunday school, and more. Adults are welcome to participate in social and religious gatherings, classes, and discussions. Congregants are avid community service volunteers. Currently programs exist to visit hospital patients and prison inmates. The mosque was in the news for providing aid to the families of the victims involved in the EgyptAir Flight 990 crash in 1999. The masjid is always open to hearing suggestions from community members. Major issues are brought to the community before decisions are made. The current Imam and leader of the mosque is Mufti Iqram ul-Haq. He is supported by a committee of six congregants who deal with administrative and financial matters.
